Formal Social Events

The yachting season at Admirals Cove is highlighted by three major events. These official events symbolize only the best in our yachting traditions.  While every event has a precise purpose, each also shares the common goal of having fun and preserving the camaraderie of our stellar Yacht Club. Barbara Spitz, our Commodore, works endless all season long to ensure that these formal social events are entertaining and unforgettable.

Invitations are usually mailed to all members presenting the theme of the formal social event and the price for members and their guests.  Members normally RSVP Admiral’s Cove to guarantee their reservation.

Commissioning of the Fleet - Sunday, November 16, 2008

The Commissioning of the Fleet and dinner dance is the opening event for every yachting season. The commissioning, or blessing, of the fleet is a maritime and fisherman’s tradition dating back to the early Mediterranean era. Boats and all who sail in them were blessed, with prayers to return them to land in safety and with bountiful catch.

Each Commodore sets out the commissioning proceedings; however, each and all concern the tradition of the seas, the camaraderie of boaters and the blessings for those on land, as well as those at sea.  At 6:30pm, the events commence with a cocktail hour, followed by the commissioning proceedings. The evening then comes with an end with dinner and dancing. And best of all:  there is always a stellar surprise theme for the evening!

Commodore's Ball, Saturday, January 19, 2009

The renowned Commodore’s Ball is the pinnacle event of the season. This yachting tradition honors the Commodore. All members are encouraged to sport their best apparel, black tie recommended. Guests are more than welcomed.

Changing of the Watch, Sunday, April 26, 2009

The final event of the season welcomes in the new Commodore and presents your Bridge officers for the next yachting season.  This is a great opportunity for all members to rejoice the past season and prepare for the next. Like the other events, there will be fine dining and dancing.
